Laugh So Hard Your Guts Hurt

October 2006

Boring day? These hilarious memories will put a smile on your face and take you back to your days as an undergrad. Relive your wild days and share your memories with us at here.

What is the memory that makes you laugh hardest today?

“The 1926 Model T that no one owned, just at the house for use by the brothers. No Insurance, no License. Great fun. One of the brothers, me, kept it running. It was red and we looked great with our red and white hats. Mostly avoiding the police.” - Jack P. DeBoer, ’52

“The time someone moved Corliss Ingles' desk and chair (complete with freshly laundered tee shirt and boxers hung out to dry over the chair) on the roof outside of what was Room #3 in 1951-52 in the dead of winter. They were stiff as boards in the morning. Corliss wasn't happy.” - Robert (Bob) Dustan, ’52

“Lillian and my wedding reception in the Theta Chi Fraternity House.” - Ralph A. Klawitter, ’52

“I remember being so tired after practicing for two sports, diving and gymnastics, that I could not stay awake after 9:00 PM and would go to bed in the dorm long before anyone else and then get up at 4:00 AM to study. I was well rested and no one was up to disturb me.” - Donald E. Leas, ’57

“As a pledge, trying to wake some of the brothers in the dorm and their excuses for not getting right up were pitiful.” - David E Briggs, ’59

“The fact that I finally had a high enough grade point average to graduate.” - Clifford H. Morris, Jr., ’64

“Spending Easter break in the house, digging out more of the basement under Mom Justus's apartment, sweating like hogs, and being able to play pool anytime we wanted. Our pool games got better, not sure we dug that much out of the basement crawlspace.” - Charles A. (Chuck) Coonradt, ’66

“That everyday I thought I was so busy with one or two classes... Boy, what a life it was back then.” - Jeff Griggs, ’95

I always loved hash during rush week. -Todd Wiseley, ‘92

Describe the best party

”Red Carnation Ball… It was an event looked forward to every year.” - Jack P. DeBoer, ’52

“Bowrey Balls were always special, but there was a Harem Party that was memorable for many reasons. Ask Ginny Kobman and Sally Dustan about that one. Then there was the Halloween Party after which Bob Vanderburg was forever known as Hippo.” - Robert (Bob) Dustan, ’52

“The Red Carnation Ball of 1958. Everything was beautiful, including my date!” - David E Briggs, ’59

“Taking the mascot OX back to the U of M chapter, after our pledge class decided to dognap him. We had him a week, then our brothers rebelled against the donations for dog food, and instead contributed gas for me to return the dog to our Ann Arbor brothers.” - Charles A. (Chuck) Coonradt, ’66

“Recent reunion with classes from ’67 to ’71 in South Carolina.” - Raymond A. Balbach, ’70

The Reggae Bash was always a great time. -Todd Wiseley, ‘92

“A trip to Ann Arbor for a game with Michigan in 1958.” - David E Briggs, ’59

Road tripping to Chicago with Mike Dorocak '92 as an offshoot to a National Office Leadership meeting in Indy. -Todd Wiseley, ‘92

What is the one memory you have shared or will share with your children or grandchildren?

“Being accepted to Theta Chi and finding real Brotherhood... Nothing better in life.” - Jack P. DeBoer, ’52

The joy of living in the Lodge with my closest friends for three years. -Todd Wiseley, ‘92Remember When...
